West Virginia Democrats More Than Double House Seats, from 9 to 21

West Virginia Democrats scored their best legislative results in years in the November 3 election, more than doubling their state House delegation from 9 seats to 21 and doubling their Senate seats from 2 to 4, the state Democratic Party announced. Republicans retain supermajorities in both chambers.
State party chair Mike Pushkin noted that 8 of the 12 newly elected House Democrats are women, bringing the number of women in the House Democratic caucus to 10, close to half the caucus. The party also highlighted a House win in Wood County, its first there in many years.
Canvassing of county results begins November 9; the results remain unofficial until certified. (Source: West Virginia Democratic Party)
