Virginia DMV Launches Community-Built Seat Belt Campaign in Danville Area

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · US · GSM News

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles launched a community-designed seat belt campaign on November 5 in the City of Danville and in Pittsylvania and Franklin counties. Developed by the DMV's Office of Highway Safety with local partners, the campaign uses video, photography and other formats in which about 25 local residents tell their own reasons for buckling up. Data show seat belt use in Pittsylvania and Franklin counties averages only 72.3 percent, below the statewide average of 78.8 percent in 2025, and the region has an elevated fatal crash rate, the direct impetus for the campaign. The effort is organized by the Community Voices for Road Safety project, which involves residents in creating the campaign's content and messaging. DMV Commissioner Saundra M. Jack said local residents speaking in their own voices moves people more than slogans alone. The campaign will run through December 2026 on local traditional and digital media, reminding drivers and passengers to buckle up as soon as they get in.
