Duke Energy Launches Annual Hunger Month With More Than $500,000 for Nearly 70 South Carolina Organizations

Duke Energy announced on November 5 the launch of its monthlong annual hunger relief campaign, with Duke Energy and the Duke Energy Foundation providing more than $500,000 to support nearly 70 organizations across South Carolina. More than 865,000 people in the state lack reliable access to nutritious food, including one in five children. The campaign kicked off in Florence on November 4, where volunteers packed and distributed 200 boxes of fresh food, and Harvest Hope Food Bank announced a permanent distribution site there. On November 5, Duke Energy joined Mill Village Farms in Greenville for the fifth annual Yam Jam, where more than 200 volunteers packed thousands of pounds of sweet potatoes, and the company provided $100,000 to Harvest Hope sites in the Upstate; the same day in Sumter, company employees worked with Hidden Wounds to pack and distribute Thanksgiving meals for veterans and community families. Throughout November, foundation grants will also support senior meal delivery, Harvest Hope distributions, technical college food pantries, weekend backpack programs, community food banks and holiday meals. The campaign wraps up on December 1, Giving Tuesday, with $130,000 in unrestricted donations.
