Two Commercial Trucks Crash on I-75 Alligator Alley in Florida, Closing Both Directions for About Five Hours

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that at about 9:45 a.m. on November 5, a cement mixer truck and a semitrailer collided in the southbound lanes of the Alligator Alley section of Interstate 75, disrupting the main route between southwest Florida and Miami. The crash happened near mile marker 63 in Collier County. All lanes in both directions were closed for a time, with traffic backed up about two miles each way; the road reopened before 3 p.m. and the closure was lifted at 3:30 p.m., though congestion continued. Troopers said it was one of four crashes within four hours on the same roughly four-mile stretch that day. The number and severity of injuries were not yet clear as of publication, and the cause is under investigation. Alligator Alley is the main corridor crossing the wetlands of southern Florida between the east and west coasts; large numbers of vehicles were stranded during the closure, and troopers urged drivers to watch for traffic updates and detours. The investigation continues, and the patrol has not released further information about the vehicles or drivers involved.
