Columbus Brewer Land-Grant Acquires Nocterra Brand; Powell Taproom to Reopen in Late November

Columbus craft brewer Land-Grant Brewing Company announced on November 5 that it has acquired the brand assets of local craft brand Nocterra Brewing Company and plans to reopen Nocterra's Powell taproom in late November. A company spokesman said the first Nocterra beers produced by Land-Grant were canned on November 4 at Land-Grant's Franklinton brewery. Land-Grant founders Adam Benner and Walt Keys said the acquisition aims to carry on Nocterra's brand and beer styles. Nocterra ceased operations on August 31, closing both its Powell taproom and its location south of downtown Columbus at Scioto Audubon Metro Park. After the acquisition, the Powell taproom will reopen, but the Scioto Audubon location, which opened only in 2024, will not. Land-Grant operates a roughly 1.5-acre beer garden, pickleball courts and outdoor gathering space in Columbus that draws large crowds for game days and family gatherings; in July the company was named one of 38 bars on USA Today's 2026 Bars of the Year list and is one of six Columbus-area craft breweries to win at the 2026 World Beer Cup. Nocterra's closure had saddened many local craft beer fans, and news of the acquisition and reopening has been welcomed. Industry observers say Columbus' craft market is highly competitive and that established brewers consolidating brands and channels through acquisition has become common; whether Land-Grant can restore Nocterra's vitality remains to be seen.
