Honolulu mayor confirms Chinatown Cultural Plaza tenants get six months to vacate by March 2027

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · Society · GSM News

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi confirmed in a November 3 interview on Hawaii News Now's 'Spotlight Now' that tenants of the Chinatown Cultural Plaza have been given at least six months' notice to vacate, with lease terminations and vacating to be completed by March 31, 2027, to make way for a full redevelopment. The mayor said the city has pushed for years to improve the Chinatown property and has invested heavily in public safety, sanitation, infrastructure and public spaces.

The plaza was designed and built in 1974 by six Chinese organizations on about 3.97 acres at 100 North Beretania Street. Taiwan acquired the property in 1979, and Longevity International Enterprises Corporation manages it. The owner has announced a comprehensive redevelopment: preliminary work includes environmental impact assessments and archaeological studies, followed by demolition of the existing structures and an invitation for developers to submit proposals. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Honolulu said the redevelopment opens a new chapter for the plaza.
