Viral Ring Video Shows Two Women Making Monkey Noises at a Black Ole Miss Student's Door; 9.5 Million TikTok Views, University Yet to Respond

At 8:37 p.m. on November 6, a Ring doorbell camera outside the apartment of Jakiyra Metcalf, a Black freshman at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), recorded three young women walking past, two of whom imitated monkeys and made monkey noises at the camera. Metcalf, who lists herself as a member of the university's class of 2030, posted the clip to TikTok about two hours later and tagged the university. The video has since spread widely, reaching about 9.5 million views on TikTok. As of Saturday evening, November 7, Ole Miss had not confirmed who is in the video, and no public statement from the school on the incident had surfaced.
According to Hollywood Unlocked, PrimeTimer and other outlets describing the doorbell footage, the first woman hops into the frame, beats her chest and makes monkey noises; a second woman moves in closer and echoes the noises; a third trails behind smiling, neither joining in nor intervening. Posting the clip, Metcalf wrote, "what do we have to say about this ??" and tagged the official Ole Miss account.
Early on November 7, Metcalf added in the comments that the women were not strangers: "We just found out they are our upstairs neighbors." She also wrote that she would give an update when there was one. The clip spread quickly: Baller Alert reported more than 631,000 likes and 34,000 shares within a day, and Where Is The Buzz put the figures at more than 775,000 likes and 63,000 shares in under 24 hours. Many commenters demanded action from the university, and some circulated names they believed belonged to the women.
Those circulating names have not been confirmed by any credible media outlet, and the university has not confirmed whether the women in the video are its students. This report does not publish the unconfirmed names; it records only the doorbell video itself, the poster's public statements and the response status so far.
Former NFL player and author Emmanuel Acho responded to the clip on X and other platforms, writing that racism "is not an accident, it is not a reflex, it is not a slip of the tongue" but "a conscious, active decision to weaponize history, pain, and systemic degradation against another human being simply because of the color of their skin," and asking, "Why choose to be racist?"
It is not the first monkey-noise incident at Ole Miss. As Baller Alert recounted, in May 2024 a white student was recorded jumping up and down and making monkey noises at a Black woman during a pro-Palestinian protest on campus; his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, removed him, and the university opened a student conduct investigation. Baller Alert also noted that Black Mississippians make up nearly 40 percent of the state's population, while Black students made up only about 11 percent of the Ole Miss student body as of 2024.
