Charlotte voters approve all three city bond referenda totaling $425 million

Charlotte voters approved all three city bond referenda in the November 3 election, totaling $425 million, according to unofficial returns updated November 5: a $280 million transportation bond for roads, sidewalks and bikeways; a $125 million housing bond for affordable housing; and a $20 million neighborhood bond for community improvements.
Including interest, the estimated total costs are about $437.1 million for transportation, $198.4 million for housing and $31.2 million for neighborhoods.
The housing bond's passage is especially significant: City Council housing committee chair LaWana Mayfield had said the city's down-payment assistance account hit zero last month. The city can now begin borrowing, with project lists and timelines to be considered by the council in turn. (Source: Mecklenburg County Board of Elections)
