Phoenix council count continues: Evans leads District 2, Hermes dominates District 4, runoffs likely

Ballot counting in Phoenix's City Council elections entered its third day, and unofficial results updated on November 5 pointed to likely runoffs in two districts: Matt Evans held his lead in District 2, while Ed Hermes dominated in District 4.
District 2 is the race to succeed term-limited Councilman Jim Waring. Of Evans's two opponents, Julie Read held a narrow lead over Danny Mazza for second place. If no candidate exceeds 50% of the vote, the top two finishers will meet in a runoff on March 9.
Incumbents in the other two contested districts, 6 and 8, also led by wide margins. Arizona allows voters to drop off early ballots at the polls on Election Day; those ballots must be processed and verified before tallying, and results remain unofficial until all ballots are counted and certified.
