To mark Veterans Day, the SPCA Serving Erie County in New York announced on November 5, 2026, that its long-running Vets & Pets program will again waive adoption fees on most animals for people on active duty, in the reserves, and with an honorable discharge, along with service-disabled veterans, retired service members and their immediate families.
The program runs Saturday, November 7 through Saturday, November 14 at the SPCA's shelter at 300 Harlem Rd. in West Seneca; off-site locations are not included. A military ID or DD214 must be presented, and the spouse of a service member stationed outside New York State may adopt by presenting a military spouse ID card. The waived fee can be applied toward a total of two animals per adopter.
Adoption hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with adoptions started by 5 p.m.; the shelter is closed Sunday, November 8. The program is presented by Moog. (Source: SPCA Serving Erie County)
