Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at the regular press conference on November 5 that the 11th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting was held in Beijing on the morning of November 4, co-chaired by Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the first LMC Leaders' Meeting.

Guo said the six LMC countries took stock of cooperation outcomes and experience, and agreed that over the past decade LMC has grown with strong momentum across all dimensions, delivering tangible results beneficial to all. Lancang-Mekong countries are becoming more interconnected, with more robust growth momentum, stronger security safeguards, and closer people-to-people bonds, boosting the modernization of the six countries.

Wang Yi put forward five proposals for the next stage of LMC. First, form new synergy for solidarity and collective strength, carrying forward the LMC culture of equality, sincerity, mutual assistance and kinship. Second, reach new heights of open and win-win cooperation: deepen cooperation along the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, promote regional trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, build the LMC Economic Development Belt, and support more small and smart livelihood programs. Third, foster new driving force through green development and innovation, expanding cooperation in emerging areas such as the digital economy and superintelligence (SI), and welcoming more Mekong countries to join the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization. Fourth, enhance security coordination, reject external interference and bloc confrontation, and step up efforts to fight cross-border crimes. Fifth, create new highlights in disaster governance, setting up a cross-border cooperation mechanism for disaster warning and strengthening cooperation in monitoring, early warning and emergency response.

Wang stressed that China stands ready to work with Mekong countries in the direction charted by their leaders, take down-to-earth actions to solve problems and improve people's well-being, jointly advance modernization, set LMC as a leading example of regional cooperation and solidarity of the Global South, and jointly usher in a new golden decade of LMC.
