Thai Police Bust Transnational Scam Ring in Pattaya: 8 Arrested Including 3 Chinese Nationals, Losses Top 100 Million Baht

Pattaya, Chonburi Province, Thailand — Police from the Royal Thai Police's Region 2 investigation bureau have busted a transnational scam ring operating from a condominium in central Pattaya, arresting eight suspects: five Thai nationals and three Chinese nationals. Thai police said the network is linked to fraud cases across the country with combined victim losses of more than 100 million baht.
According to Pattaya local media, after Region 2 investigation commander Kiattisak Sarathong-oi ordered a crackdown on the Thai-Chinese network, officers from the Region 2 Anti-Cyber Scam Center (ACSC) executed a search warrant issued by the Pattaya Provincial Court on The Trust Condominium in central Pattaya.
Police seized 22 bank books, 35 ATM cards, 28 SIM cards, 19 mobile phones, three laptop computers and 2.71 grams of crystal methamphetamine. Investigators said the group, made up of Thai and Chinese members, used online channels to defraud members of the public and moved the proceeds through other people's bank accounts.
The eight suspects were charged with conspiring to procure, open or allow the use of bank deposit accounts for criminal purposes, along with methamphetamine possession and use offences, and were handed over to the Pattaya City Police Station for legal proceedings.
Thailand has repeatedly raided small scam operations hidden in condominiums and resorts in recent years, as large compounds in Cambodia and Myanmar have been broken up and the networks have scattered into smaller units in cities such as Pattaya and Bangkok.
