Castle Rock Man Sentenced to 450 Months in Prison for Producing and Distributing Child Sexual Abuse Material

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · Justice · GSM News

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado announced on November 5 that James Zachary Heath, 27, of Castle Rock in Douglas County, Colorado, was sentenced to 450 months in federal prison and a lifetime of supervised release for producing and distributing child sexual abuse material.

Heath had pleaded guilty to one count of production of child pornography and one count of distribution of child pornography. According to the plea agreement and facts established at sentencing, a foreign law enforcement agency located a video on the dark web in July 2024 and, in September 2024, found a longer compilation video that ultimately led to Heath being identified.

United States Attorney Peter McNeilly said the lengthy sentence demonstrates how seriously the American justice system takes these horrendous crimes, and that he was glad this predator would be out of the community for a very long time.

Amanda Koldjeski, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Denver Field Division, said child sexual abuse material harms the initial victims and their families and feeds an illegal marketplace for such images and videos, and warned that the FBI would find those who exploit children.

The FBI Denver Field Division investigated the case, Assistant United States Attorney Alecia L. Riewerts prosecuted it, and United States District Judge S. Kato Crews presided over the sentencing. The case number is 1:24-cr-00309-SKC. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, the nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse and to identify and rescue victims.
