Follow-up: Another Man Federally Charged in Deep Ellum Halloween Shooting: 27-Year-Old Accused of Firing Into Crowd, Wounding Seven, Surrendered Nov. 4

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · Justice · GSM News

There is a new development in the Deep Ellum Halloween shooting in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould for the Northern District of Texas announced at a press conference on November 5 that one of the alleged shooters has been federally charged.

Background: gunfire erupted in the Deep Ellum entertainment district in the early hours of November 1. GSM previously reported the city and police response and the launch on Monday of Operation Deep Cover, a coordinated federal, state, and local law enforcement surge targeting violent crime and illegal firearms in high-density entertainment and commercial corridors across Dallas; one defendant was charged during the operation's initial rollout.

The newly charged defendant is David Dashaun Yancy, 27, charged by criminal complaint with being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Yancy surrendered to the Dallas Police Department on November 4 and remains in custody.

According to court documents, at approximately 1:00 a.m. on November 1, Dallas Police officers responded to reports of gunfire at 2626 Main Street in the historic Deep Ellum entertainment district, which was crowded with patrons celebrating Halloween. Officers found seven individuals suffering from gunshot wounds; all seven sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Crime scene investigators recovered eleven 9mm fired cartridge casings and projectiles from the area.

Surveillance footage captured Yancy prior to the shooting pulling a handgun from his waistband, racking the slide, and concealing it again; moments later, additional footage captured him pulling the firearm out and firing directly into the crowd in multiple directions, striking seven bystanders. Following witness interviews, anonymous tips, and surveillance analysis, detectives positively identified Yancy as the shooter.

A review of Yancy's criminal history revealed a prior felony conviction in Dallas County. At the time of the shooting, he was on felony deferred adjudication probation for child endangerment and had an active warrant for a probation violation. An interstate nexus analysis by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives confirmed that the ammunition recovered from the scene had traveled in interstate commerce.

The ATF and the Dallas Police Department conducted the investigation under Operation Deep Cover. Assistant U.S. Attorney Marissa Aulbaugh is prosecuting the case. If convicted, Yancy faces up to 15 years in federal prison. A criminal complaint is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
