[Video] Follow-Up: U.S. Spacewalk 101 Complete, Two Astronauts Install Final Solar Array in 6 Hours 59 Minutes

NASA announced on November 5 that NASA astronaut Anil Menon and CSA (Canadian Space Agency) astronaut Joshua Kutryk concluded their spacewalk outside the International Space Station at 3:35 p.m. EST, installing and deploying the eighth and final International Space Station Roll-Out Solar Array (IROSA) in six hours and 59 minutes and completing the station's power augmentation upgrades.

NASA said the array was installed on the station's 3B power channel. Work to augment the station's power generation began in February 2021; since then, astronauts have completed 18 spacewalks to prepare power channel equipment and install the eight arrays. Together, the roll-out arrays increase the station's power generation capacity from 160 kilowatts to approximately 215 kilowatts. NASA has said the additional power supports critical station operations, including the station's safe and controlled deorbit at retirement.

U.S. spacewalk 101 was Menon's fifth spacewalk and Kutryk's second, and the 286th spacewalk in support of space station assembly, maintenance and upgrades. The pair exited the station's Quest airlock, with Kutryk serving as crew member 1 in the suit with red stripes and Menon as crew member 2 in the unmarked suit; NASA streamed the spacewalk live.

It was the pair's second spacewalk together in a week: on October 29, during U.S. spacewalk 100, they installed the seventh array and completed get-ahead work for this final installation.
