Bowers Museum Opens Two New Galleries on November 21: Art of Mexico and Central America and Bowers Legacy

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · Culture & Travel · GSM News

The Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, Orange County, California, will open two new galleries on November 21 — Art of Mexico and Central America and Bowers Legacy: The Making of a Museum — both on ongoing display.

Art of Mexico and Central America travels through 3,000 years of Mesoamerican art, from ceremonial vessels and ballgame equipment to jade and gold jewelry and the fan-favorite ceramic dogs. The gallery also features glyph-covered ceramics, a digital codex and contemporary artist Raúl Anguiano's monumental painting The Mayas, proof that these traditions are still very much alive and influencing modern-day artists.

Bowers Legacy travels back to 1932 and tells how a generous bequest from Charles and Ada Bowers transformed into Orange County's first public museum. It explores archival photographs, architectural drawings and ten historic objects, including items from the Bowers' home and the museum's original guest book.

Also at the museum, the featured exhibition Picasso Ceramics from the Rosenbaum Collection is now open (October 24, 2026 to February 28, 2027), and a free Ceramics Fair takes place on November 15. The Bowers Museum is located at 2002 North Main Street in Santa Ana.
