Minneapolis Yard Waste Season Winds Down: Final Collections the Week of November 30

The City of Minneapolis Solid Waste & Recycling service in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, reminds residents that the 2026 yard waste season is ending: the last collection is on each household's pickup day during the week of November 30 to December 4. The season began the week of April 6, with weekly pickup on garbage day included in the base service fee at no extra charge for properly prepared yard waste.
Preparation rules: yard waste must be set out in reusable containers (32-38 gallons, 26-32 inches high, with sturdy handles), compostable bags — plastic ones must carry the BPI logo — or bundles tied with string or twine, each under 40 pounds, at the collection point by 6 a.m. on pickup day. Traditional plastic bags are not allowed, and Minnesota law makes it illegal to throw yard waste in the garbage.
Accepted materials include leaves, grass clippings, brush and branches under three feet long and three inches in diameter, pine cones and needles and garden plants; diseased plants, weed seeds and invasive species are also accepted because the composting process runs hot enough to kill them. Improperly prepared yard waste gets a pink educational tag, and uncorrected problems can draw a fee on the property's utility bill.
