Friday, November 6, 2026 · World · GSM News

The Swiss Federal Council decided on November 4 to adopt the measures from the European Union's 21st package of sanctions against Russia and Belarus. The Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research expanded and updated the sanctions lists on November 3.

The list amendments came into effect at 11 p.m. on November 4, while the sectoral measures entered into force on November 5, aligning Switzerland with the EU package and related decisions.

The Federal Council also decided on November 4 to waive, exceptionally, about 1.5 million Swiss francs in reimbursement claims for the hospital treatment in Switzerland of 12 people insured in Italy who were injured in the Crans-Montana bar fire on January 1, which killed 41 people. The government said the waiver rests on reciprocity and gratitude for the assistance Italy and other countries provided through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
