Malaysia Holds Security Meetings on Cyber and Geopolitical Threats: Anwar Briefs Parliament

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim told parliament on November 3 that the country's key institutions would hold a series of meetings that day to prepare against cyber and geopolitical threats. The chief secretary of the government and the governor of the central bank were to convene separate meetings with government departments and financial institutions to assess the risks.
Anwar said the National Security Council met on Monday to discuss available mechanisms, coordination between ministries, agencies and security forces, and the country's preparedness for any eventuality. The council's director general will give a closed briefing to all lawmakers within one to two days.
Anwar was responding to advice issued to citizens of the European Union, Canada and Japan to stockpile food after cyberattacks hit digital infrastructure across Europe and the West. He also cited hybrid digital and cyberattacks among the threats reviewed. Separately, he told a tax authority event that Malaysia's e-invoicing system had recorded 2.14 billion e-invoices from about 269,900 taxpayers as of November 2.
