Pittsburgh Councilor Deb Gross Won't Seek Reelection After 13 Years in District 7

Friday, November 6, 2026 · Society · GSM News

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Pittsburgh City Councilor Deb Gross announced on the evening of November 5 that she will not run for reelection next year and will step down when her current term ends on December 31, 2027.

Gross has represented District 7 on Pittsburgh City Council since winning a special election in November 2013, serving for more than 13 years. Her district centers on the Polish Hill, Lawrenceville, Bloomfield, Friendship, Stanton Heights, Morningside and Highland Park neighborhoods and is among the most diverse areas of Pittsburgh's East End.

Gross said she chose to step aside in part because she believes the right successor is ready to take over and continue serving district residents. She has long focused on community development, housing and neighborhood issues; her departure will leave the District 7 seat open next year and is expected to draw multiple candidates.
