Salazar Leads by 1,090 Votes in Final FL-27 Count; Margin Triggers Recount

MIAMI, Fla. — Miami-Dade County's canvassing board completed its final count on the morning of November 6 in Florida's 27th Congressional District, with incumbent Republican Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar leading Democratic challenger Elliot Rodriguez by 1,090 votes, down from 1,325 on election night.
Because the margin is below Florida's 0.5% recount threshold, the secretary of state will order a recount, which could begin as early as November 9 or 10. Also on November 6, the Rodriguez campaign sued Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections Alina Garcia in federal court seeking her recusal from the canvassing board. Garcia responded that she would not recuse herself. Salazar said she welcomes the recount and supports a transparent process.
The 27th District runs from Little Havana in Miami to Cutler Bay and Kendall, is about 70% Latino, and is among the most closely contested House races in the country.
