Hawaii Names 25 Opportunity Zone Tracts, 19 on Oahu Including Lahaina's Front Street

HONOLULU, Hawaii — Gov. Josh Green announced on November 5 that Hawaii has finalized its list of 25 census tracts under the federal Opportunity Zones 2.0 program: 19 on Oahu, four on Hawaii Island and two on Maui, including the tract containing Lahaina's Front Street.
The Opportunity Zone program uses tax incentives to steer private capital into economically distressed communities, supporting housing, commercial and infrastructure projects. The governor's office said in its news release that the full list of selected tracts and a map have been published, and the public can look them up through the federal Community Development Financial Institutions Fund website.
The inclusion of the Front Street tract in Lahaina means rebuilding in the area devastated by the 2023 wildfires could draw more private investment. The governor's office did not disclose how much investment each selected tract is expected to attract, nor a timetable for projects, saying further details will come from the state government as the program moves forward.
