Bentley Hudgins Elected to Georgia House, Becoming State's First Japanese American Lawmaker
ATLANTA, Ga. — Democrat Bentley Hudgins won Georgia's House District 90, defeating Republican Samantha Boston to become Georgia's first openly transgender and nonbinary state lawmaker and the first Japanese American member of the state legislature.
The district covers parts of the eastern Atlanta metro area and DeKalb County. Decision Desk HQ called the race for Hudgins on election night; with 84% of votes counted, Hudgins led by a wide 94% to 6% margin.
Hudgins, a longtime community organizer who uses they/them pronouns and was named to the 2026 Out100 list, will take office in January.
