Kentucky Magistrate Race Tied 91-91, Decided by a Coin Flip

ROBERTSON COUNTY, Ky. — The race for Robertson County's District 2 magistrate ended in a 91-91 tie in the November 3 voting, and the election board settled it on November 6 with a coin flip, which Democrat Kristen Fryman won.
Republican Benny Ray Leonard and Democrat Kristen Fryman each received 91 votes in the midterm election. The county election board offered the candidates random tie-breaking options including a drawing and a coin flip; both agreed to the coin flip, the result came up tails, and Fryman thereby won the District 2 magistrate seat.
The county clerk's office confirmed the coin-flip result to the media on the morning of November 6, and the Courier Journal reported it that morning. Magistrates are elected county officials in Kentucky who handle fiscal court business and local administration, and an election decided by a coin toss is a rarity locally.
