JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Democratic state Rep. Anthony Ealy was arrested by police in Jefferson City at about 11:30 a.m. on November 4 and has been charged with fourth-degree assault and peace disturbance. As of the morning of Friday, November 6, he remained held without bail in the Cole County Jail.

Ealy represents the 36th House District, which includes Grandview, and on November 3 had just defeated Republican Dave Thomas by 68 percent to 32 percent to win a third term. Jefferson City police said that at about 11:30 a.m. on November 4 they responded to a call near Ealy's apartment building, where multiple witnesses said a man was shouting and creating a disturbance outside a business, mentioning a gun and threatening to kill people, disrupting a funeral under way next door. Police arrested Ealy nearby.

The House Democratic leadership office said Ealy had been removed from all committee assignments this spring to deal with personal issues, that it does not intend to restore his assignments in the next session, and that the outlook for his seat is unclear.
