Friday, November 6, 2026 · States · GSM News

HARTFORD, Conn. — The office of U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut announced on November 6 that Murphy was discharged from the hospital that day, after being treated for a stroke. This is a follow-up report on his condition.

Murphy felt unwell on October 31 and was subsequently diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage. Dr. Jose Suarez, director of neurosciences critical care at Johns Hopkins Hospital, said Murphy had suffered a minor hemorrhagic stroke; his recovery has been remarkable, and at his current pace he is expected to make a full recovery after rehabilitation.

Murphy's office said he will continue recuperating at a rehabilitation facility and will miss Senate votes in the coming weeks. Murphy is a progressive voice within the Democratic Party and is viewed as a potential candidate in the 2028 presidential election. His office did not disclose the name of the hospital he left or of the rehabilitation facility. The Senate is back in session after a recess, and Murphy's absence will leave Democrats one vote short in the coming weeks.
