New Hampshire Democrats Sweep All Five Executive Council Seats

CONCORD, N.H. — Democrats swept all five seats on New Hampshire's Executive Council in the November 3 election. The Associated Press confirmed the final seat at 12:01 p.m. on November 6: Democrat Luz Bay defeated five-term Republican incumbent Joe Kenney to win District 1.
District 1 covers Coos and Carroll counties, parts of Belknap County, and the cities of Dover and Durham. Previously, only one Democrat sat on the council.
In other districts, Lisa Kennedy Sheldon defeated three-term Republican incumbent Janet Stevens in District 3, and David Wheeler failed to win a ninth term in District 5.
Democrats also made major gains in the state legislature: House Clerk Paul Smith said Democrats could lead Republicans 292 to 107 in the House, and the AP projected a 15-to-9 Democratic majority in the state Senate. Republican Gov. Kelly Ayotte won a second term but will face a divided state government.
