CONCORD, N.H. — The state Senate Democratic caucus voted on November 6 to select Sen. Rebecca Perkins Kwoka of Portsmouth as its leader, putting her in line to be elected president of the new state Senate in December.

In the November 3 elections, Democrats won 15 of the Senate's 24 seats, retaking the majority; the Republicans' current 16-8 advantage will flip when the new term begins in January. Perkins Kwoka, the current minority leader and a former Portsmouth city councilor, won a fourth two-year term on November 3.

The Senate Democratic caucus said its candidates ran on lowering the cost of living for Granite State families and ending corruption in Concord. Sen. Debra Altschiller of Stratham was also elected as one of the caucus's deputy assistant leaders. If elected in December, Perkins Kwoka will become president of the new state Senate and preside over the two-year legislative session; the new Senate takes office in January.
