Nebraska State Patrol to Notify Parents When Children Appear in Explicit-Content CyberTips

Friday, November 6, 2026 · States · GSM News

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska State Patrol announced a new initiative on November 5: when a child appears in a CyberTip involving explicit content shared online, troopers will notify the child's parents directly, helping families intervene early and protect children from online exploitation.

The patrol's Technical Crimes Unit is the central intake point statewide for CyberTips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and Nebraska is expected to receive more than 7,000 CyberTips in 2026.

Under the initiative, the unit will mail notification letters to the parents or guardians of involved children, outlining what happened — including the account information in the tip — explaining how to contact the unit with questions, and including links to support resources. Parents can also seek educational resources from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Nebraska's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, run by the State Patrol, investigates child sexual assault, child pornography and online enticement cases.
