San Diego had set club single-season records with 18 wins and 58 points in the regular season and was in the playoffs for the first time since 2023. Forward Trinity Byars scored 11 goals with 3 assists this season, becoming only the second player in club history to reach double figures in goals in a single season.
Utah was in the playoffs for the first time in club history after a club-best 14-win regular season, with Canadian forward Cloé Lacasse contributing 8 goals and 10 assists. Before this match, San Diego had won all six meetings since Utah rejoined the league in 2024, including both meetings this season; Utah's win ended that run.
