West Virginia's 55 Counties Begin Election Canvass November 9; Turnout 38.33%

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Secretary of State Kris Warner announced on November 6 that all 55 counties will begin canvassing the results of the November 3 general election on Monday, November 9, with county commissions serving as the board of canvassers. Under state law, the canvass must begin five days after the election, not counting Sunday; if a quorum cannot be reached that day, it may be postponed to the next available date. The canvass will include a hand-count audit of unofficial results to check the accuracy of the count.
Preliminary figures show 463,912 ballots cast statewide, or 38.33% of 1,210,385 registered voters. Counties must report certified results to the Secretary of State as soon as possible and no later than 30 days after the election, December 3. Voters can find election information on the Secretary of State's website, and once canvassing is complete the official results will confirm the final outcomes for offices and amendments. The office said the hand-count audit will be conducted publicly, with observers able to watch the count from a reasonable distance.
