China Responds to New U.S. Cuba Sanctions Involving Chinese Companies: Firmly Opposes Illegal Unilateral Sanctions

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun hosted a regular press conference in Beijing on November 6, 2026. An AFP journalist asked about the U.S. State Department's announcement on November 5 of a new round of sanctions related to Cuba, which included two Chinese companies accused of providing electronic products and security equipment to the Cuban military.
Guo said that China's cooperation with Cuba is aboveboard. China firmly opposes illegal unilateral sanctions and so-called long-arm jurisdiction that have no basis in international law and are not authorized by the UN Security Council, and firmly opposes U.S. interference with and disruption of China-Cuba cooperation.
Guo said China firmly supports Cuba in safeguarding its national sovereignty and opposing external interference, and will take all necessary measures to firmly protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.
The sanctions announced by the U.S. State Department on November 5 designated 10 targets and identified five vessels as blocked property, including Chinese companies accused of supplying the Cuban military. GSM reported the designations on November 5; Guo's remarks are the Chinese Foreign Ministry's formal response following the U.S. announcement.
