Lakers Assign Bronny James to G League Affiliate: Set for Coachella Valley's Opener Tonight in Palm Desert

The Los Angeles Lakers announced on Nov. 5 that they have assigned guard Bronny James and rookie guard Cameron Carr to the team's NBA G League affiliate, the Coachella Valley Lakers. Coachella Valley opens its season on Friday, Nov. 6, at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, in California's Riverside County, against the Salt Lake City Stars; the Lakers have not confirmed whether either player will appear in the opener.
James, 22, is in his third NBA season. During the Lakers' 7-2 start he appeared in five games, averaging 2.4 minutes and 0.8 points. His G League production has been far larger: over 25 games across the past two seasons with the affiliate, he averaged 18.4 points, 4.4 assists and 4.0 rebounds, shooting 49.6 percent from the field and 41.3 percent from three.
The affiliate previously played as the South Bay Lakers in El Segundo before relocating to Palm Desert and rebranding as the Coachella Valley Lakers this season, under new head coach Alex Cerda. This is also James's first season in the Lakers organization without his father, LeBron James, who signed with the Philadelphia 76ers as a free agent last summer.
