Farmer Family Foundation to Give Up to $100 Million Over a Decade: Largest Gift in Miami University's 217 Years

Friday, November 6, 2026 · Nonprofit · GSM News

Miami University, in Oxford, Butler County, Ohio, announced that the Farmer Family Foundation intends to give up to $100 million over the next decade to its Farmer School of Business — the largest donation in the university's 217-year history and one of the biggest ever made to a public undergraduate business school in the United States. President Gregory Crawford announced the gift in his annual State of the University address on Nov. 5.

The first $55 million will arrive over the next three years. The commitment includes a $25 million matching fund under which the foundation will match new gifts of $25,000 or more dollar for dollar, up to $2.5 million from any single donor, behind priorities such as quantitative skills, technology, experiential learning and career readiness. The terms of the remaining $45 million are still to be determined, and future funding will depend largely on the school continuing to meet key performance metrics.

The Farmer School is named for Richard T. "Dick" Farmer, founder of Cintas Corp., and his family: the Farmers provided the school's cornerstone gift in 1992, and the foundation was the lead donor for the school's building. The new gift also carried the university across the $1 billion goal of its fundraising campaign. The Farmer School serves more than 5,000 students. (Source: Miami University)
