Giving Tuesday on December 1 Will Open a Five-Day “Generosity Week” Running to International Volunteer Day

The global generosity movement GivingTuesday has announced that this year’s Giving Tuesday falls on December 1 — and, for the first time, will stretch into a five-day “Generosity Week,” running from Giving Tuesday on December 1 through International Volunteer Day on December 5, celebrating giving and volunteering in a single week.
According to the organization, Generosity Week is a collaboration between GivingTuesday and the International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE), inviting people in more than 100 countries to give their time, skills or resources to their communities. The timing draws on the United Nations’ designation of 2026 as the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development.
Created in 2012 and held on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday has grown into the world’s largest single day of giving. The organization estimates that U.S. donors gave about $4 billion in 24 hours on Giving Tuesday 2025.
No registration or permission is needed to take part: people can act on their own or sign up for support and resources. Organizers say the five-day span is meant to underline that generosity is not only about money — volunteering is giving, too. (Source: GivingTuesday)
