North Dakota Deer Gun Season Opens November 6; Game and Fish Urges Blaze Orange and Fire-Danger Checks

Friday, November 6, 2026 · States · GSM News

North Dakota's statewide deer gun season opened on Friday, November 6, and runs through November 22. The North Dakota Game and Fish Department issued its season reminders on November 2, urging hunters to check county fire danger and restrictions before heading out and to observe blaze-orange and tagging requirements.

With unusually warm and dry conditions this fall, the department asks hunters to consult NDResponse.gov for county-by-county fire danger ratings and burning restrictions, and to follow local rules for open flames and vehicle travel so as not to spark fires on dry prairie.

Hunters must wear at least 400 square inches of solid blaze-orange clothing above the waist, including a head covering. After harvesting a deer, hunters must validate and tag the animal immediately as required. The department also asks hunters to complete the harvest survey, which helps biologists track the deer population and set future management plans.

Suspected poaching or other violations can be reported to the Report All Poachers hotline at 701-328-9921.
