Trapping Seasons Under Way in New Hampshire, With Just 256 Licensed Trappers for 2026-27

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department reported from Concord on November 4 that trapping seasons are now under way across the state. Seasons generally run from mid-October through mid-April but vary significantly by area of the state and by species; a total of 256 trapping licenses have been sold in New Hampshire for the 2026-2027 season.
Jacob DeBow, the department's Furbearer Project Leader, notes that although licensed trappers are relatively few, they provide an extremely valuable service: helping to manage abundant wildlife populations and collecting biological samples that would otherwise be difficult for the department to acquire. Season lengths and limits for each species are set using many factors, including abundance.
Trappers must file mandatory reports of the towns where their activity occurred, their catch and their effort by April 30 following the close of each season. A full summary of season dates and rules appears in the New Hampshire Hunting Digest, available at licensing agents and online. Trapper Education courses are offered around the state from April to September, teaching students to be safe, legal, responsible and ethical trappers.
