Three Pensacola, Florida, men have been arrested on federal charges related to a multi-year conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin for the Northern District of Florida announced on November 6. The defendants are Douglas Lewis, Jr., 49; Kenneth Savage, 47; and Emmit Crum, 48, all of Pensacola.

The charges relate to a conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, using telephone facilities to carry out the drug conspiracy, and maintaining a drug premises. Also arrested on federal drug charges were Tiffany Oppelt, 36, and Britny Davis, 36, both of Pensacola.

As revealed in court during a preliminary hearing, the three men were arrested during an operational takedown involving searches of multiple Escambia County residences. Law enforcement seized close to two pounds of fentanyl, multiple firearms and vehicles, and more than $100,000 in U.S. currency during the search warrant executions. Prosecutors said the conduct involved significant amounts of fentanyl distributed throughout Escambia County over more than a year.

The three men appeared this week before U.S. Magistrate Judge Zachary C. Bolitho in Pensacola for detention hearings and were ordered held in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending further proceedings.

The case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office, the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, the Walton County Sheriff's Office, the Pensacola Police Department, the Florida Highway Patrol, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the FBI, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney David L. Goldberg is prosecuting the case, which is part of Operation Take Back America.

A federal criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. (Source: U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Florida)
