Millbrae Man Sentenced to Five Years for Purchasing and Receiving Child Sexual Abuse Material

MILLBRAE, California — A 36-year-old man from Millbrae, in San Mateo County, California, has been sentenced to 60 months in federal prison for receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM). United States Attorney Craig H. Missakian and FBI Special Agent in Charge Scott R. Schelble announced the sentence on November 6, 2026; U.S. District Judge Trina L. Thompson handed it down in Oakland.
Gianbernardo Florendo was indicted by a federal grand jury on December 19, 2024, and pleaded guilty on June 26, 2026, to receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography. According to the plea agreement, between at least March 2022 and at least August 2023, Florendo used the Telegram application to receive CSAM images and videos, sending payments via PayPal to foreign sellers to gain access to groups and chats containing CSAM.
Investigators found hundreds of CSAM videos and images on Florendo's phone and in his Telegram chats. Prosecutors also said Florendo engaged in sexualized chats with others while pretending to be a minor.
In addition to the prison term, Judge Thompson sentenced Florendo to five years of supervised release. The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ivana Djak. (Source: U.S. Department of Justice)
