Del Mar Weekly: Unofficial Council Election Results Put Spieker and Grewal Ahead for Two Seats

The City of Del Mar, in San Diego County, California, published issue No. 387 of its weekly newsletter on November 6. Unofficial results for the City Council election, posted that morning by the San Diego County Registrar of Voters, show a four-way race for two open seats: Meghan O. Spieker (971 votes), Jas Grewal (779 votes), Terry Gaasterland (585 votes) and Jeff Sturgis (558 votes).
As the registrar continues to count incoming mailed ballots, updates are scheduled before 6 p.m. tonight and on Monday, and certification of the election is expected on or before December 3.
The City Council meets at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, at the Del Mar Civic Center Town Hall, 1050 Camino Del Mar. The agenda includes considering agreements with development partner Gangi Development — an Exclusive Negotiating Rights Agreement and a Predevelopment Funding Agreement — to advance the adopted Housing Element plan for small-scale affordable housing on vacant city-owned property on 10th Street. To meet its obligations for 113 lower-income units, Del Mar must develop at least four units of affordable housing on the 0.10-acre site at the southwest corner of the Civic Center complex; the total number of units, parking and design will go through community outreach and design review before final City Council approval.
