1,300 Encore Boston Harbor Workers Ratify New Contract, Ending Two-Month Strike

A strike lasting more than two months at Encore Boston Harbor in Everett, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, formally ended on November 6. Teamsters Local 25 and UNITE HERE Local 26, representing more than 1,300 workers, announced that members had overwhelmingly ratified a new five-and-a-half-year collective bargaining agreement, ending the strike that began on September 4. The previous contract had expired on August 31.
Housekeepers, cooks, servers, bartenders, slot attendants and warehouse staff walked picket lines during the strike. The new agreement includes significant raises, improved benefits and better working conditions, though detailed terms have not been released. Workers began returning to their posts from about 6 a.m. on November 6. The strike hit the casino's business: Massachusetts Gaming Commission figures show gross gaming revenue of $46.06 million in September, down about 22% year over year. Wynn Resorts CEO Craig Billings announced a resolution framework on the company's third-quarter earnings call, and members ratified the agreement in a vote on the evening of November 5.
