Among the decliners: Kroger closed at $67.70, down $1.73 (2.49%); Progressive fell 2.32% to $227.77; Chubb fell 1.78% to $365.02; Ford slipped 0.72% to $12.44 on 37.5 million shares; Starbucks eased 0.71% to $105.41; Pfizer dipped 0.20% to $29.39 on 48.2 million shares; and Merck edged down 0.14% to $146.73.
