Hidden Hills Lists Citywide Bans in Effect During Saturday's Red Flag Warning

The City of Hidden Hills, in Los Angeles County, California, advised residents on November 6 that the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Santa Monica Mountains, including Hidden Hills, from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, unless extended. Northeast to east winds of 20 to 40 mph with gusts of 50 to 70 mph, humidity of 8 to 20 percent and dry vegetation are creating critical fire weather conditions; if a fire starts, it is likely to spread rapidly and behave erratically.
Under City Ordinance No. 393, the following are prohibited citywide for the full duration of any Red Flag Warning: portable outdoor barbecue grills of any kind; outdoor fires and open flames, including fire pits and outdoor fireplaces; any outdoor activity that could produce a spark or flame; gasoline- or propane-powered maintenance equipment, including lawn mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, chippers, grinders, welding devices and portable generators; and outdoor smoking. Generators used for emergency or medical purposes and gasoline-powered pumps used for fire protection are exempt.
The city asked residents to contact gardeners, tree trimmers, contractors and other service providers scheduled for Saturday to cancel or reschedule their work, noting that notices will be posted at the gates and workers arriving to perform prohibited activities will be turned away. Residents were also urged to have go-bags ready, keep vehicles fueled and know their evacuation zone and route. City Hall can be reached at (818) 888-9281.
Los Angeles County issued its own advisory for the same warning earlier in the day, with fire agencies adding staffing and pre-positioned resources, as GSM reported separately.
