Friday, November 6, 2026 · World · GSM News

The daily newsletter issued on November 6 by the Government Information Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region carried five further items worth noting, in addition to the International Forum on Mutual Learning among Civilizations opening next Monday, which GSM has covered in a separate story, and the verdict in Macao's first national security case, also fully reported separately. The items are summarized below.

[Grand Prix Family Carnival at Tap Seac Square this weekend] The 73rd Macau Grand Prix will stage seven races on the Guia Circuit from November 19 to 22. As a warm-up, the Grand Prix Family Carnival will be held first at Tap Seac Square on November 7 and 8. The carnival will recreate the Guia Circuit and a mini race track, letting children experience the various jobs involved in the Grand Prix and learn about motor racing in a lively way. A Grand Prix car show will follow at the same venue on November 14 and 15, with this year's opening ceremony also held there on November 14. (Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee)

[Grand Prix Museum opens new champions' car exhibition zone] The Macao Grand Prix Museum, under the Macao Government Tourism Office, opened a new FIA Formula 4 and FR World Cup exhibition zone on its basement level on November 6, displaying the cars of 2025 Macau Formula 4 World Cup champion Jules Roussel and 2024 Macau Grand Prix FR World Cup champion Ugo Ugochukwu; the Macau GT Cup zone has also been revamped. The race rescue vehicle display on the same floor has been upgraded, with a video introducing the rescue vehicle's equipment and 3D scanning. During the Grand Prix itself (November 19 to 22), the museum will run a limited-time interactive start-light reaction challenge, and the winning works of an AI creation competition on the Grand Prix theme will be shown in the museum on November 15. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed on Tuesdays. (Macao Government Tourism Office)

[SAR passport holder denied boarding to Mexico: visa-free policy unchanged] The Identification Services Bureau recently received a case in which a Macao resident transiting at Beijing airport on the way to Mexico was refused boarding by airline staff, who said Mexico's immigration authority had temporarily changed its entry policy and the resident's document no longer met visa-free conditions. The bureau contacted the resident at once and inquired with the Consulate General of Mexico in Hong Kong, which replied that Mexico's visa-free entry policy for Macao SAR passports has not changed to date. The bureau is actively liaising with the airline concerned to ascertain the details and continues to follow up. Residents who run into difficulties while travelling may call the bureau's hotline 2837 0777 (office hours) or the 24-hour tourism hotline 2833 3000. (Identification Services Bureau)

[Macao Polytechnic University climbs to 306th in QS Asia rankings] QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) released the QS Asia University Rankings 2027 on November 3, covering some 1,700 universities across 26 Asian countries and regions. Macao Polytechnic University ranked 306th in Asia, jumping nearly 100 places from 402nd last year to a record high, with improved scores across academic reputation, employer evaluation, research publications and international network. All four Macao universities in the ranking moved up: the University of Macau rose to 96th, entering Asia's top 100; Macao University of Science and Technology rose to 190th; and City University of Macau rose to 370th. [Tourism office enlists Korean actor Ahn Bo-hyun for promotional film] The Macao Government Tourism Office invited popular South Korean actor Ahn Bo-hyun to star in a tourism promotional film, "A Dynamic Macao Trip with Ahn Bo-hyun." Shot from a warm, companion-style perspective, the film presents Macao's culture, cuisine, nature experiences, major events and in-depth community tours; Ahn rides a sightseeing bus from the Ruins of St. Paul's into local neighbourhoods and watches the 34th Macao International Fireworks Display Contest. The film has been released on the tourism office's official platforms. The office said that, in view of the health and sports trend among young South Koreans, it chose the athletic, sunny-imaged Ahn to help develop the young Korean visitor market and expand Macao's international reach.
