Monrovia Weekly Update: Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11 at Library Park, City Facilities Closed

The City of Monrovia, in Los Angeles County, California, issued its City Manager's Update on November 6. The city thanked residents who voted in person, by mail or at a drop box, and noted that ballots are still being counted, with Los Angeles County expected to certify final results by Friday, November 27.
For Veterans Day: the annual Field of Honor display is up in Library Park through November 11, and residents can stop by any day between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to write a message of appreciation and add it to the flags. On Veterans Day, November 11, the Allied Veterans Council of the Upper San Gabriel Valley will host its annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. in Library Park. City facilities will be closed on Veterans Day and reopen on Thursday, November 12. Residential street sweeping and street sweeping parking enforcement are canceled November 9 through 13 and resume Monday, November 16; Public Works can be reached at 626-932-5575.
Other city items: contractors will pressure wash the exterior of the Monrovia Public Library on Monday, November 9, as part of the Library Story Room Expansion Project, with work possibly continuing during regular hours and visitors asked to follow directional signs. The Station Square South entrance opened on Wednesday, November 4, at 225 W. Duarte Road, putting the Metro A Line within easy reach for residents, workers and visitors.
Upcoming events: the annual Holiday Parade returns to Old Town on Thursday, December 3, at 7 p.m., traveling north on Myrtle Avenue from Walnut Avenue to Palm Avenue; the Thankful & Grateful Holiday Gathering and Tree Lighting is Thursday, November 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. in Library Park, a free community event with live entertainment, library story times, community booths, arts and crafts and horse-drawn carriage rides; a downtown walking tour led by the Monrovia Historic Preservation Group runs Saturday, November 7, at 10 a.m., $5 per person for about two hours; and the Monrovia Community Garden hosts a free DIY Garden Gifts workshop on Saturday, November 14, at 303 W. Colorado Blvd., no RSVP required.
The city also urged residents to get ready for storm season: sign up for Alert LA County and city emergency alerts, clear gutters and drains, and pick up sandbags at Recreation Park ahead of forecasted rain. Because standard homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage and most flood policies take 30 days to take effect, residents are advised to review coverage at FloodSmart.gov.
