Overnight Closures Coming to State Route 91 from Cerritos to Gardena, Nov. 9-13

Friday, November 6, 2026 · California · GSM News

Drivers who use State Route 91 at night next week should plan ahead. The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will impose overnight lane, ramp, and connector closures on SR-91 between Cerritos and Gardena in Los Angeles County, California, from Monday, Nov. 9 through Friday, Nov. 13, for curb, gutter, and sidewalk work on a sign rehabilitation project. There will be no closures on Nov. 10 or 11 due to the Veterans Day holiday.

According to Caltrans, both directions of SR-91 between Vermont Avenue in Gardena and the Orange County line will be reduced to two lanes overnight. On the nights of Nov. 9 and 12, up to three lanes of eastbound SR-91 from Vermont Avenue to the 710 Freeway will close from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., and connectors from eastbound SR-91 to the Long Beach (710) Freeway may also close. All closures that begin Monday night will reopen by 4 a.m. Tuesday.

The $34 million project covers a 14.7-mile stretch of SR-91, rehabilitating roadside and overhead signs and lighting, restoring highway planting, replacing guardrail, and making worker-safety improvements. It is expected to be completed in summer 2029, with Security Paving Company as contractor.

Caltrans notes the schedule is subject to change for weather or operational reasons. Nighttime drivers should allow extra time and check the agency's QuickMap system for live conditions. (Source: California Department of Transportation)
