The grand marshals for the 30th annual Phoenix Veterans Day Parade in Phoenix, Arizona, were announced on November 5. Seven veterans whose service spans World War II to the war in Afghanistan will serve as veteran grand marshals, including a 100-year-old retired command sergeant major, Delmar DeWitt Beard, who was sworn into the Navy on D-Day, June 6, 1944, served aboard LST-715 at Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and later retired from the Army in 1970 after 26 years across three wars.

The celebrity grand marshal is two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Jim McMahon, who led the 1985 Chicago Bears to the Super Bowl XX title and won a second ring with the 1996 Green Bay Packers; he now lives in Scottsdale. The parade steps off at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 11, on a new route along 3rd Street between McDowell Road and Indian School Road, under the theme "250 Years of Freedom, 30 Years of Honor." Organizer Honoring America's Veterans says the Phoenix parade is the largest Veterans Day parade in the Southwest and the fourth largest in the nation, drawing tens of thousands of spectators each year.
