The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said on November 6 that U.S. Secret Service officers arrested an armed man on the evening of November 5 on Constitution Avenue near the White House in Washington, D.C. The man told officers he heard voices in his head telling him to come to Washington and kill President Trump.

DHS said Secret Service officers approached the suspect when they saw him acting suspiciously in his car parked on Constitution Avenue. Officers then discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen, and the suspect admitted to having weapons in the vehicle. Officers found three different firearms, including an AR-15-style rifle, a MAC-10 and a Glock 43X, as well as dozens of rounds of ammunition.

The suspect, Ronny Yordrix Guanipa Chrinos, is a Venezuelan national. DHS said he has been charged with carrying a rifle outside a home or business, three counts of unlawful transportation of a firearm, three counts of unregistered firearms, three counts of unregistered ammunition, possession of certain dangerous weapons, carrying a pistol without a license, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, theft and receiving stolen property. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer for Chrinos with the U.S. Marshals Service, and he is currently in custody.

DHS said Chrinos illegally entered the United States through Texas in March 2024, was arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol, and was then released into the country.

"Thanks to our brave Secret Service officers, this illegal alien with three firearms in his vehicle was arrested near the White House before he could harm anyone," Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said. U.S. Secret Service Director Sean Curran said the incident was the latest example of Secret Service personnel relying on training and experience to de-escalate a volatile situation that posed an imminent threat, and that the Secret Service will keep expanding its focus on proactively investigating individuals who threaten its protectees.
