Average Medicare Advantage Premium Falls to $12 a Month for 2027; Open Enrollment Ends December 7

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released Medicare premium figures for 2027: the weighted average monthly premium for Medicare Advantage plans will fall from $14.37 to $12.00, a 16.5% decrease and one of the largest annual drops in recent years.
In detail, the Part D portion of premiums for Medicare Advantage plans that include drug coverage will drop from $11.32 to $7 a month, a 38% decrease, while the average premium for stand-alone Part D drug plans edges up from $35.09 to $36, an increase of less than a dollar. CMS also announced that the Part D Premium Stabilization Demonstration will end after 2026. For 2027, the standard Part D deductible is $700 and the annual cap on beneficiaries' out-of-pocket drug spending is $2,400.
Open enrollment for 2027 plans runs from October 15 to December 7, 2026, with changes taking effect on January 1, 2027. With the deadline approaching, CMS urges beneficiaries to compare premiums, deductibles and pharmacy networks among local plans before deciding whether to stay or switch.
