Red Flag Warning for the Los Angeles Area on Saturday: Mountain Gusts to 55 mph, Humidity Near 10%

The National Weather Service office in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a Red Flag Warning for Los Angeles County, California, and nearby mountain areas from 2 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific Time on Saturday, November 7, covering the Santa Clarita Valley, the Santa Monica Mountains, the Santa Susana Mountains, and the western San Gabriel Mountains including the Highway 14 corridor.
Forecasters expect northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to about 45 mph, and isolated gusts of 45 to 55 mph in wind-prone mountain areas, while humidity drops to 10 to 20 percent. With dry vegetation and strong winds, any fire that starts will be difficult to control, and residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and stay alert to potential ignition sources.
Separately, the Weather Service has issued a Beach Hazards Statement for Catalina Island, the Malibu coast and Los Angeles County beaches, in effect through Tuesday afternoon, warning beachgoers about dangerous surf and rip currents. Residents and visitors heading to the mountains or the coast this weekend should watch both fire weather and ocean conditions. (Source: National Weather Service)
